Large house fire on Alphonse Street

Updated: Jun 14, 2020

Around 8:27 PM multiple calls came in for a house fire and people trapped inside. When Rochester Fire Department Engine 16 arrived on scene at 8:30 PM there was a large fire stretching along the side of the home.

The Rochester Fire Department tells us that when they arrived on scene one of the fire hydrants was not working. That caused delays in fighting the fire and resulting in one of the neighboring homes sustaining damage.

Rochester Fire Department Deputy Chief stated that they usually check the fire hydrants once a year during the springtime. The fire hydrants are usually in good working order and they haven’t seen an issue like this before. Rochester Fire Department Deputy Chief also tells us the fire started from the back of the home.

Fortunately no one was hurt and the house was vacant at the time.
