On Sunday, former Rochester City Judge Leticia Astacio announced that she will be running for Rochester City Council. Astacio ran for Rochester City Council back in 2019 but was defeated by Jose Peo. This will be her second attempt for Rochester City Council. Astacio stated that her prior experience as an attorney and having a Master Degree in Social Work, makes her uniquely qualified for the position.
Astacio does not come with a clean record. Astacio was a former Rochester City Judge but was removed from the bench after a DUI conviction back in 2016. Her legal battles continued for the next couple years with multiple issues with violating probation. In 2018, Astacio was arrested for violating probation when she attempted to purchase a shotgun from a local Dick’s store. She was later found not guilty of the charges.
