Man died after being shot on Lyell Avenue

A person is dead following a shooting on Rochester's west side earlier this evening. Police say this appeared to happen right across the street from a fire house on Lyell Avenue near Child Street around 6:30 p.m. An officer investigating a shot spotter activation found the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Firefighters from the station across the street responded to give first aid.  

The 22-year-old male victim was rushed to the hospital where he died about an hour later.

Lyell Avenue and nearby streets were shut down as police investigated the incident.
