Calling all black men the event hosted by Demond Meeks, stop the violence
Event for Peace calls on men to help combat the city violence
As Rochester deals with its 48 homicides in 2022, the Pathways to Peace, Rise Up Rochester, and Roc the Peace organizations came together last night for a community BBQ. The event was held on Hudson Avenue and drew hundreds of people. The event allowed people to come together and figure out ways to combat gun violence within the city.
The mayor’s advisor Victor Saunders was on hand and stated that the coming together of these groups continues to show the strength this community has for change.
The event was aimed at bringing the male role models out and getting them more involved in the community. Rise Up Rochester and Roc the Peace mothers showed up as well to show their support for the male role models. With the increase in violence over the last couple of years, these organizations hope that more positive male role models can point the younger community in the right direction and steer them away from the violence.
Assemblyman Demond Meeks is in his third week of doing community outreach. Meeks says he is not slowing down and how we can not allow the differences to divide us.
