Early morning shootout with police leads to man being arrested
On Friday morning around 2am the Rochester Police Department responded to the 400 block of Remington Street for a male with a gun. As officers arrived on scene, they found a male in the roadway with a gun. Officers attempted to make contact with the male, when he began to shoot at officers. Officers did return gunfire.
After a short shootout with officers, a chase ensued. The chase came to an end on Weaver Street when officers were able to take the male into custody.
The Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and the Professional Standards Section are investigating the incident.
The Rochester Police Department confirmed that no citizens or the suspect sustained any injuries. A Rochester Police Officer was attacked by a dog during the apprehension of the male suspect, which resulted in the dog being shot. The officer’s sustained minor injuries. The dog was taken to Rochester Animal Services where it is being treated.
The Rochester Police Department is investigating the incident and has not provided any information as to how many officers were involved in the shooting, or if any if the officers have been placed on administrative leave.
