Large 3rd alarm house fire on Monroe Avenue and Rosedale Street

About 10:20 A.M Tuesday The Rochester Fire Department received a 911 call for flames showing from a roof of an apartment building.

The first fire engines arrived on scene about 10:24 A.M. when they discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the apartment.

After being on scene for more than 15 minutes, it was fully upgraded to a 3rd alarm fire.

There were 21 people living in the home at the time. All of the residents and their pets were accounted for.

One Rochester firefighter had minor injuries and is expected to make a fully recovery.

The Rochester fire chief mentioned that apartment buildings can be difficult to extinguish because they don’t know the main source of the fire.

The Rochester Fire Department says there was about 80 personnel on scene helping assist with the fire. During the spring and summer time fires may be difficult to put out due to the heat, causing and firefighters to get tired out and dehydrated.

The Red Cross was available and on scene to assist all 21 people as the fire chief mention it will not be stable for them to stay here for now.

The fire chief stated, they are receiving more calls and seeing more fires like these as more people are working from home. He wants people to take precaution and be careful.
