Man arrested for Suntru Street Murder
On Saturday evening the Rochester Police Department arrested 48-year-old Juan Rivera in connection to the death of 35-year-old Maribel Rivera-Diaz. Maribel was found Friday night on Suntru Street in her vehicle stabbed multiple times. Maribel was pronounced dead on scene. Officers
During the investigation, officers went to Maribel’s estranged husband’s home located on McNaughton Street. As officers arrived on scene, they were told that Rivera was inside the home with a shotgun. As officers surrounded the house, they attempted to make contact with Rivera. As officers were asking Rivera to exit the house, he started a fire in the basement. Rivera then exited the home and surrendered.
The Rochester Fire Department responded to the scene, which was located at 89 McNaughton Street. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. Inside the home at the time of the fire were 10 dogs, a rabbit, and a ferret which all died.
Rivera is charged with second-degree murder and third-degree arson. He will remain in Monroe County Jail with no bail.
