Peaceful Protest Calls for Change In Rochester
Black Lives Matter protesters gathered for a 5th day on Jefferson Avenue to protest the death of Daniel Prude. Organizers, elders, and protesters gathering on Jefferson Avenue before making their way down West Main Street to the Public Safety Building. The protestors arrived at the Public Safety Building around 9:00pm. As the protestors arrived at the Public Safety Building, organizers gave speeches, called for change to how mental health patients should be treated, and defunding of the Rochester Police Department. Protestors also sang songs and prayed.
The Rochester Police Department did have officers standing ground outside of the Public Safety Building, with little to no interaction with the protestors. The protestors remained peaceful except for a couple individuals who acted up. Those protestors who acted up were immediately escorted away by organizers.
The peaceful protest lasted for about 3 hours before coming to an end around 1:00am.
No arrests were made and no injuries were reported.
