Texas school shooting kills 15, suspect only 18
On Tuesday morning an 18-year-old gunman, Salvador Ramos shot and killed 14 students and 1 teacher at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Uvalde Police Chief Pete Arredondo stated that the shooting occurred just two days before the school year ended.
Ramos was a student at Uvalde High School and appears to have been known throughout the community.
Governor Greg Abbott stated that Ramos shot and killed his grandmother before heading to Robb Elementary School at 11:30am. Ramos entered the school with a handgun and a rifle. As he entered the school, he began to open fire on the students and teachers. Responding officers arrived at the school and encountered gunfire from Ramos. A shootout ensued and two officers were shot before killing Ramos. Both officers are expected to survive their injuries.
University Hospital said they were treating 2 of the victims, both of which are in critical condition. One of the victims is a 10-year-old girl and the second is a 66-year-old woman.
President Joe Biden is expected to address the nation tonight to discuss the shooting.
