The 2023 Rochester Lilac Festival Kicks off

The Rochester Lilac Festival is getting ready to kick off for the next two weeks.  This will be the 125th time the Lilac Festival will be held.  The festival begins today, Friday, May 12 and ends on Sunday May 21.  The festival is open from 10:30am to 8:30pm every day.

The Lilac Festival celebrates the start of spring in Upstate New York.  It has the largest collection of lilacs in North America.  There are over 1,800 bushes and 500 different varieties of lilacs.  The theme for this year’s festival is “Partners with a Purpose”.  There will be an art installation project known as the “Giving Garden” on display.

During the 10-day event there will be multiple events, vendors, and shows for festival goers to enjoy.  All of the concerts are free to attend, but visitors can also purchase VIP tickets to view the concerts on a party deck.  All of the proceeds from the VIP tickets for the May 15 concert will go towards 490 Farmers, which is a community garden on state-owned land.

On Saturday, May 13 at 10:30am the Lilac Parade will take place on South Avenue at Science Parkway before heading toward Highland Avenue and ending near Goodman Street.
