5 killed, 40 injured as SUV plows through parade in Wisconsin

Five people are dead, and more than 40 others were injured when a vehicle plowed through a Christmas parade in Wisconsin.

According to officials on Sunday around 4:39pm a red SUV drove through a crowd of people at a Christmas parade in Waukesha, WI which is located about 17 miles west of Milwaukee. The driver of the SUV struck multiple people as he drove through the crowd. Officers with the Waukesha Police Department who were working the event did open fire on the vehicle.

Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson advised that the red SUV was located and a person in interest was taken into custody.

The Governor of Wisconsin, Gov. Tony Evers stated that this was a “senseless act”. Gov Evers also stated “I’m grateful for the first responders and folks who acted quickly”.

Law enforcement officials state that the driver of the SUV did not appear to be intending to strike the parade goers, but instead was running from a prior incident he was involved in.

This is an ongoing investigation by the Waukesha Police Department.
