City of Rochester celebrates We Stand with Buffalo event
On Wednesday evening Monroe County Leaders along with city of Rochester leaders came together at Aenon Missionary Baptist Church to celebrate the lives lost in the mass shooting in Buffalo and pray for all that were impacted by the shooting. During the event numerous speakers said prayers, gave words of encouragement, read scripture, and talked about how we overcome these tragedies. In attendance at the event was Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, Rochester Mayor Malik Evans, along with Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter.
After the event, Mayor Evans spoke with reports stating “These words from people are turning into violence. We have to speak out as a community and have physical conversation to stop the violence. We have to stop the hate that turns into violence.”
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello also spoke with the reports and stated “We need to send a strong message to the world that hate and tolerance that led to this tragedy can’t and will not be tolerated.” Bello also stated “The community needs to work together, stand up and support one another.”
Monroe County Executive Bello has been talking to other county leaders and trying to resolve the ongoing gun violence. Bello stated that they have mobilized our Office of Mental Health, bringing resources directly to the community.
