Homicide suspect arrest after police chase


On Thursday afternoon the Rochester Police Department made an arrest in the Lamont Street homicide.


Rochester Police Department advised that officers on routine patrol noticed the suspect in a vehicle that was traveling on Avenue D and Hollenbeck Street. Officer initiated a traffic stop. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled.


As police were pursuing the vehicle the front seat passenger fired multiple rounds at officers. Officers returned gunfire. As the pursuit continued the front seat passenger threw the gun from the vehicle.

RPD stated that the chase came to an end in the 600 block of Avenue D. Both occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.


Neither the suspects or the officers were injured during the incident.


Interim Police Chief David Smith stated “ I can report at this time that no person was struck by gunfire during the incident.”

Interim Chief Smith advised that all officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave until an internal investigation can be completed.


A 9mm handgun was recovered by RPD.
