Large house fire on Sherwood Avenue with heavy police presence

Early Thursday morning the Rochester Fire Department received numerous calls for a reported house fire on Sherwood Avenue near Chili Avenue. As firefighters arrived on scene, they saw smoke and flames coming from the 2-story home. Individuals on scene reported to firefighters that there was a child still in the home. As firefighters entered the home in search for the child, they had to evacuate due to the rapid spread of the flames.

After a short period of time, the Rochester Fire Department did extinguish the fire. A search of the property was done, but no child was found.

The house did sustain extensive damage and is deemed unsafe to live.

The Rochester Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
